Simulation of Home Appliance Use and Electricity Consumption to Quantify Residential Energy Management Resources

Abstract: This paper presents a model to estimate energy demand of residential buildings. The modeling methodology is designed to generate stochastic time varying characteristics in energy demand and to take into account a variety among households in occupants’ behavior as well as operation, ownership and specification of home appliances. By using this model, we quantified energy management resources (EMR) that can be flexibly utilized for energy management purposes. As EMR, we considered refrigerator, dishwasher, laundry, cloth dryer and air-conditioner. We developed a database on electricity consumption of these appliances to understand actual operation condition and specification of these appliances. The simulation result revealed that the scale of EMR was 70W during daytime and 110W during nighttime per household in August.
