Abstract: Simplified methods for determination of the energyrequirement of buildings are generally based onyearly, period or monthly balances with practicaluses primarily for residential buildings.With DIN V 18599 a computation procedure is introduced in the range of non-residential buildings,that provides a detailed evaluation of the energy balances for heating, hot water preparation, lighting,room air conditioning and cooling based on monthlybalances. Restrictions in the application of this procedure are for the determination of the net energydemand essentially in the range of unheated/uncooled glazed annexes as well as naturalnight cooling. Regarding technical equipment withinthe range of the cooling and room air-conditioningplants, adsoption cooling machines, solar cooling andcomponents of existing HVAC-systems are not ornot sufficiently treated.Apart from the restrictions regarding the computationmodels, which can or have to be compensated by useof simulation approaches, the procedure according toDIN V 18599 offers the possibility of including computation results from detailed planning into the energetic evaluation.
