Calibrating building simulation models based on indoor and outdoor environmental monitoring

Abstract: We present the systematic framework and the initialresults of an effort to obtain, analyze, and interpretindoor and outdoor environmental data fortraditional buildings in six Mediterranean countries.We specifically illustrate the matrix of outdoor andindoor environmental parameter to be monitoredtogether with the corresponding instrumentation toolsand data collection processes. We describe how datathus obtained will be used to calibrate simulationmodels of the buildings. Such models can be used tobetter understand the specific bio-climaticperformance features of traditional architecture andto evaluate alternative options for their improvement,restoration, and reuse.
