Complex Federation Moscow – Klimatisierung einer 350m hohen Glasröhre

Abstract: The 'Complex Federation' ( in Moscow, Russia, a multi-purpose building with 448 m height, will become Europe's tallest building. In between of the two towers, a 'Mast' accommodates panoramic elevators that transport visitors to several public areas and a viewing platform.The Mast itself consists of a 8 m wide and 350 m high glazed tube – more or less a gigantic solar collector. The task was to analyze and optimize the design of the Mast in a way that a minimum technical installation for heating, cooling, and ventilation would be sufficient to maintain adequate thermal conditions. With the simulation tools the used systems and façade types were checked, the openings for the natural ventilation of the Mast were defined and the thermal behavior in summer and winter was evaluated. The proceeding within the project as well as the simulation results shall be presented in this article.
