Abstract: The ECBCS Annex 36 „Retrofitting of Educational Buildings – REDUCE – Energy Concept Adviser for Technical Retrofit Measures” of the International Energy Agency (IEA) dealt with the energy efficient retrofit of educational buildings. For the time of 4 years researchers from 10 different nations collected information on retrofits of schools, nursery schools and universities. The Annex was managed by the Fraunhofer Institute of Building Physics as the German representative. National requirements, the actual development status of retrofits, the average energy consumption of educational buildings, possible retrofit measures, case studies and existing assessment tools were gathered and analysed. The main result, besides several reports on case studies, retrofit measures, calculation tools, etc. is the socalled „Energy Concept Adviser“, which provides information on energy efficient retrofit to decision makers in administrations and shall assist them in the first path breaking planning phase of a retrofit.
