Abstract: Planning and calculation of borehole heat exchangers is mostly based on one particular set of design data. The effect of deviations or variations of this data have up to now generally not been examined. Analytical examinations and first simulations reveal that typical uncertainty und variability of design parameters and assumptions leads to significant deviations of real plant performance from expected values. Therefore, this issue should be more thoroughly addressed in the future. This refers to the design process as well as to operation and operation supervision, at least for large geothermal plants.
