Museumsklima im Denkmal

Hans Jürgen Schmitz

Abstract: In the context of the restoration of buildings on palace Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel building physics and room climate conditions for the Weißensteinflügel with its historical interior design and the Löwenburg as a fake castle ruin were examined. The goal of the extensive restoration is an extended museum use with improvement of the stable climate conditions for the building fabric and the exhibits. From parameter studies of the hygrothermal behaviour of the historic structure co-ordinated solutions for the structural and environmental reorganizations were developed. Here it was not intended to achieve all time stable climate conditions but to develop an optimized feasibility and building concept for the characteristics of the different building parts. The results of the simulation of the existing structure could be verified by partial existing room climate data. Thus it was possible to examine the behaviour of different variants of the use, the structural changes and the environment and to use the simulation as an important instrument in the design process.
