Integration of an Anisotropic Material Model into the Hygrothermal Transport Simulation Framework Delphin in Context of Wooden Beam Heads

Abstract: Recent research was conducted on anisotropic material properties, but rather few findings gained influence on development of transient simulations for heat, air and matter transport in porous media. This paper describes a physical model, its corresponding workload assumption, and an implementation of anisotropy for the Delphin Solver Frame- work, emphasizing a solution that pulls anisotropy- related mapping-computation-effort out of an actual solution step into the initialisation phase of a solver run. Three academic examples targeting validation as well as evaluation of isotropic and anisotropic solvers where executed. These results are discussed taking into account a mathematical and physical workload distribution evaluation executed during each solver run. Finally a first evaluation of the influence of anisotropic material functions is performed.
