FE Ground Heat Exchanger Models for Dynamic Building and System Simulation with Matlab/Simulink

Fabian Ochs, Wolfgang Feist

Abstract: The CARNOT Blockset for Matlab/Simulink represents a comprehensive tool for dynamic system simulation. Using the Method of Lines partial differential equations can be transformed in ordinary differential equations, which can be solved with Simulink. Thus, finite element models (here 2D on Basis of the Matlab PDETOOL) can be directly coupled to the building and system simulation. This enables solving many complex building physics problems such as ground coupled heat pump systems with basket or trench type ground heat exchanger or with building integrated ground heat exchanger and solar heat pump systems.
