Simulation Heiz- und Kühlflügel mit Latentwärmespeicher zur Klimatisierung eines Wohngebäudes

Abstract: The Lucerne University of Applied Science and Art was involved in the development of movable surfaces which can be used for the heating or cooling of a residential building in Vaduz. These orientable wings are integrated in the building's façades and filled with phase change materials (PCM), so that they can accumulate latent heat. Air circulating through thin pipes within the volume filled with PCM acts as transport medium of the accumulated heating or cooling energy to and from the building. This technology will allow to reduce the total annual heating and cooling demand in thermal energy by 9% and 16% respectively. The orientation of the wings as well as the regulation of the circulating air inside the pipes was optimized by numerical building simulation.
