Stochastic analysis for design space exploration and building performance optimisation

T. Grille, H. Pruvost, R. Scherer

Abstract: This research presents a generic stochastic analysis workflow, which combines several types of sensitivity analysis, taking into account non-linearity as well as the need of practical feasibility in building design optimisation. A preliminary step divides the studied design variables into three categories according to their effect on building performances (no impact, linear impact, non-linear). Doing so results in a reduction of the parameter space as well as an overall reduction of computing time without loss of precision. Additionally, the workflow is enhanced by an uncertainty analysis that incorporates the effects of inherently stochastic variables acting as uncontrollable conditions on the building.
