INTEGRATING A HUMAN THERMO-PHYSIOLOGY MODEL WITH A BUILDING SIMUALTION TOOL FOR BETTER OCCUPANT REPRESENTATION

Abstract: A multi-segment thermo-physiology model was developed based on the AUB model (Salloum et al. 2007) and combined with the ESP-r building simulation tool and its integrated CFD. This enables explicit simulation of the dynamic local heat balance and thermal comfort of building occupants, within a well established building simulation environment. At each simulation time step, the thermo physiology model takes local environmental conditions, calculates occupant skin and core temperatures, and returns heat and moisture generation from the occupant. The approach was demonstrated by two case studies, showing good agreement with experimental results and demonstrating effects on building performance.
