Abstract: In rural areas there is hardly any expertise in an overall energy transition process. Small communities generally lack the skills and financial resources to actively tackle the complex processes associated with energy transition. Political decision-making processes and unclear financing structures slow down the embedding of energy strategies in local economic development. In a collaborative research project “TRAIL”, an online tool was developed to visualize the electricity and heat demand using free geographic and statistical data. To keep the hurdles as low as possible, only a current browser is required for use.
