Abstract: In the building sector and especially in the construction industry, digitization in the context of Building Information Modelling (BIM) results in heterogeneous data. The visual information contained can be used for object recognition based on the concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The present development of a data-driven reference process deals with this problem. Using the AI-based object recognition system PointNet, objects within a building can be classified and scenes can be semantically segmented. The object recognition system, originally designed for point clouds, will be extended so that building data models in the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) format can also be used for object recognition. This approach leads to an extension of the existing data sets, especially with regard to the building technology, which is necessary for AI-based object recognition.
