A simulation assisted design tool for boiler room hydronics

Abstract: This paper presents a simulation assisted tool to design the hydronic configuration of central boiler rooms and to select the accompanying components. Moreover, practical analysis procedures are defined in order to obtain optimized heating systems with a lower energy consumption and improved controllability, compared to the more traditional and static design procedures. A GUI allows the project engineer to focus on the design without worrying about the model source code. The hydronic network models are equation based and processed by means of the iterative equation solver EES (Engineering Equation Solver; ©F-chart). In addition, an interface procedure to the TRNSYS dynamic building models is presented.
