Internal convection coefficients for building simulation

Abstract: The sensitivity of the convective heat transfer correlations to air movements related to the normal use of a room were studied as part of the recent ASHRAE RP 1416. The results are summarized here and their impact on the overall calculations is discussed in this paper. Furthermore, this paper discusses the parameters that should be taken into account in a selection algorithm for the appropriate convective heat transfer coefficient correlation during a building energy simulation calculation. The parameter selection is motivated based on the literature and the results of the recent measurement campaign. The control variables directing the selection are listed and discussed. Finally, the publication will discuss the additional research required to further increase the accuracy of convective heat transfer in common building situations.
