Abstract: The CIE technical committee defined recently a set of test cases to be used for assessing the accuracy of lighting computer programs, the report CIE 171:2006. This paper presents examples of applications of these test cases for two simulation programs, APOLUX and LightTool, in order to assess the reliability of them about the report. The simulation results are compared with the programs and the benchmarks provided by report. A comparison with the programs shows the possible existence of a conceptual difference in the calculation models adopted. The test results allowed us to draw conclusions about the ability of programs to simulate different aspects of reliability propagation of light, showing that the programs meet the satisfaction of the report CIE 171:2006 to the protocols tested.
