Control Strategies for Geothermal Heat Pump Systems in Combination with Thermal and Electrical Storage Units

Abstract: The European Commission requires all new buildings to be nearly zero energy buildings (nZEBs) by the end of 2020. NZEBs are characterized by very high energy performance and low energy demand that is covered mostly by renewable sources. Although building envelopes and technical equipment for nZEBs already exist, intelligent control strategies are not yet defined. Thus, there is a risk of missing the nZEB targets. This paper describes a control strategy for plus energy terraced houses using renewable sources: photovoltaics (PV) and heat pumps as well as thermal and electrical storage. The results show how to control the heat pumps in order to increase the self-consumption of PV. The control strategy increases the direct consumption of PV by 21 %.
