Occupant-Aware Energy Management: Simulated Energy Savings Achievable Using Learned Cooling Temperature Set-points Over a Range of Climates and Cooling System Designs

Abstract: Parametric whole-building energy simulations are used to quantify the potential energy savings achievable through temperature setpoint adjustments for different cooling and ventilation strategies in a diverse range of climates across the globe. Results show significant savings potential [ranging from 18%, 53%] while still maintaining acceptable levels of occupant thermal comfort based on data-driven comfort models learned from occupant feedback and granular physical measurements.
