Currently, only weather files for typical years exist for India. We test different extreme weather file designs, to identify which weather causes most impact on the indoor environment. We use an EnergyPlus model of a typical Indian residential buildings and observe how indoor temperatures and energy consumption vary with different weather file designs. We find that mean and maximum outdoor temperatures during the hot Indian season are not sufficient indicators for indoor conditions, but Design Summer Year and Summer Reference Year represent well extreme indoor conditions.
