Digital Twin Design with on-line calibration for HVAC systems in buildings

Abstract: Digital twins of HVAC systems show great potential to increase efficiency through operational optimization and predictive maintenance of real processes. We introduce an IoT-based framework that allows the communication between a heat pump and its digital twin as well as further clients like a time series data base and supervisor dashboard. The obtained data is used to calibrate on-line the digital twin. Recalibration is performed to continuously improve the results. Using RMSE for evaluation and system supply temperature as target variable, we meet experimental data with RMSE<1 K automatically within a monthly time horizon.
