Abstract: There is currently no benchmark data that can be used to compare the energy consumption characteristics of residential buildings in South Korea. In this study, through national open-data analysis, a series of benchmark data generation processes have been demonstrated. The main features of the data development are; 1) utilizing statistically processed microdata for secure representativeness of the data; 2) employing a prototypical building concept for detailed benchmark data development to elucidate various building characteristics; 3) using key variables that cause fundamental differences in energy consumption. The results represent energy consumption characteristics with respect to regions, housing types, and net usable area.
