Agent architecture in building performance: a review of current methods

Abstract: Building Performance Simulation (BPS) has made attempts at using Agent-Based Modelling (ABM) techniques to validate, calibrate or enrich existing modelling techniques. The methods thus far have relied on a representational architecture that captures basic demographics and rudimentary behaviour concerning the interactions with mechanical equipment. This paper reviews the state of the representation of agents in agent modelling as a part building performance simulation and examines what can be learned from the human sciences to improve these models and demonstrates how to choose an ABM architecture for common use BPS use cases.
