Smart window proposes efficient solar control, but it demands insulated glass units (IGU), which could not be appropriate for warm climates. Simulations were carried out for a small office room in Sao Paulo/Brazil with laminated, IGU, and electrochromic (EC) glazing. Results showed almost no difference in consumption between laminated and IGU in cooling energy and a 5% decrease for EC glazing. Performance increases with building infiltration; when coupled with hybrid ventilation, energy consumption reduces 64.7%. EC window is suitable for the warm climate since combined with proper ventilation design.
