Energy Simulations for Energy Efficiency Improvement of an Existing Private Clinic in North Italy

Marco Picco, Marco Marengo

Abstract: The present paper analyses an interesting case study of the application of dynamic energy simulation on the energy efficiency improvement process of an existing large hospital building with a starting low level of energy efficiency. Object of the analysis are interventions on the envelope, maximum thermal power requirements and the installation of a cogeneration machine. Great attention is dedicated on the correct sizing of the CHP equipment both in the energy efficiency and economic aspects. The study is based on the modeling of the existing building as a baseline case and the evaluation of various interventions through dynamic energy simulation. The work proves the usefulness of dynamic energy simulation as an evaluation tool for effectiveness of energy efficiency improvement in refurbishment projects and provides suggestions on the correct sizing of plant and CHP equipment.
