ANNUAL SIMULATIONS OF HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS WITH VERTICAL GROUND HEAT EXCHANGERS

Abstract: This article presents a methodology that has been developed to perform annual hour-by-hour simulations of a single zone building heated/cooled by water source heat pumps coupled to a vertical ground heat exchanger. The computer program simulates the three distinct parts of the system: i) building load; ii) heat pump; iii) and ground heat exchanger. The coupled governing equations of these three models are solved simultaneously until a converged solution is obtained at each time step. Simulations are performed using a commercially-available equation solver called EES.
