NUMERICAL CALCULATION OF AIR VELOCITY AND TEMPERATURE IN ICE RINKS

Abstract: The refrigeration load as well as the hydrodynamic and thermal fields in a typical ice rink have been evaluated numerically taking into account heat losses through the envelope. The predictions of different models (laminar forced and mixed convection, turbulent mixed convection) are analysed and compared. They show significant differences in air velocities near the walls and in temperature gradients near the ice. The turbulent mixed convection model gives the best estimate of the refrigeration load.
