IMPACTS OF BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING ON FACILITY MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT

Abstract: Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been a popular buzzword with architects, engineers and contractors (AEC) for a number of years and is now starting to be used by many stakeholders in different aspects of the building lifecycle. BIM is not only changing the way we design and construct a building but is also changing the way a facility is operated and maintained. Todays buildings are not just an assembly of component structures but a combination of passive and active interacting systems. The building components have composite behaviour attributable to its occupants and the external environment which has an impact on performance."
