Modelling the Two-Dimensional Coupled Heat and Mass Transfer in Soils beneath the Basements in Residential Buildings

Abstract: This paper provides a numerical solution for simultaneous heat, air and moisture transfer within soil surrounding building foundations. The accuracy of the proposed model is assessed through comparison with numerical and experimental results of a series of laboratory controlled tests found in the literature. An application is then performed to simulate the heat and mass transfer as a result of heat dissipation of a foundation.
