Modeling of Ventilation Air Heat Recovery and Its Impact in High-Performance Green Buildings
Sam Nuernberger, Andrew LauCollege of Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PAAbstract: A custom-developed spreadsheet tool was used to analyze the performance of a constant volume HVAC system, with options of ventilation air heat recovery (VAHR), air-side economizer (ASE) system, or a combination of VAHR and ASE, for a typical office space and classroom space, in five different climates in the U.S. For all but one of the cases studied, the results show that VAHR used the most energy on an annual basis.
