Performance of High-Performance Glazing in IECC Compliant Building Simulation Model
Jaya Mukhopadhyay, Jeff S. HaberlEnergy Systems Laboratory, Texas Engineering Experiment Station, Texas A&M UniversityAbstract: Current specifications for glazing in the 2000 IECC code adopted by Texas imply the use of low-E glazing. However, the trends in the development of high-performance glazing technology indicate that windows have the potential to provide net positive energy benefits making it inevitable for future versions of the IECC to incorporate high-performance glazing. This study examines the performance of a number of such glazing options when incorporated in the IECC compliant residential building. The results show that in some cases the resultant energy consumption obtained from installing high-performance windows was lower than the energy consumption of a base-case windowless house (Approximately 6% total energy savings, and 40% heating).
