Abstract: This paper presents cost-effective recommendations for achieving 15% above-code energy performance, which are based on the ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2007, for commercial small office buildings across the State of Texas. The recommendations were developed for three ASHRAE 90.1-2007 climate zones in Texas along with simple payback calculations. A total of 16 measures were selected, including building envelope and fenestration, HVAC system, service hot water (SHW) system, lighting and receptacle, and renewable options. The implementation costs of each individual measure were calculated along with simple payback calculations. These measures were then combined to achieve a total source energy savings for the group that is 15% above the base-case, ASHRAE 90.1-2007 code-compliant building. Three combinations were proposed in each climate zone with the corresponding payback periods and NOx, SOx, and CO2 emissions savings.
